Fog in the Mountains

As it begins to lighten up this morning, you can definitely see the fog laying low.  The muted tones created by the fog remind me of the muted colors found in the civil war reproduction fabrics.  For some time I wasn't a fan of the civil war era fabrics, but my creative side is now piqued and wants to play a little more.  A friend recently requested an Underground Railroad quilt for their bed (California King might I add).  Will have to work on that soon, maybe for Christmas.

The Civil War fabrics make me think of the project our group at the Cruso Friendship Club is currently working on.  Since the fall, our Tuesday sewing group has finished 8 quilts and has 4 more tops either finished or in progress for the Home of the Brave project.  You may not have heard of the HOB project, but let me tell you, it is an awesome project.  The HOB presents quilts to the families of fallen soldiers from the Gulf War and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The project has already presented over 4,500 quilts to families, but there are so many still to go.  The HOB uses a traditional Album block for the pattern of the quilts.  This block was used during the Civil War for quilts on cots in Army infirmaries.  Also, each block has a white center square that is signed by people involved with the project or others, (we often get many different people to sign), with words of encouragement to the family that will be receiving the quilt.  The HOB is a really awesome project to be a part of.  If you would like more information on Home of the Brave visit, www.homeofthebravequilts.com.

Well, there goes that alarm clock reminding me that I must head off to work.  By the way, I did get in about 5 minutes of sewing this morning.  Until next time, quilt on!
